AMeP will no longer offer the internal controller 2kw 24v Mark II motors. Although robust and compact, the power output is not suitable for most sailboats.
The Mark II C system with an external Kelly controller (KBL301) allows for 24v to 48v operation. The Mark II C can provide 3kw at 24v, 4kw at 36v, and 5kw at 48v.
Operating an electric propulsion system at full power for extended periods can cause overheating, and will quickly deplete battery power reserves. Reduced power operation can stretch battery output to over twice the distance of full power operation.
Each installation is unique. Choosing an experienced installer will help. Most individuals can be coached through general installation instructions. Aluminum extrusions and plates can be shaped with carbide-tipped power saws and metal drills at dockside. AMeP can provide isolation mounts, drilled angles, hardware and slotted plates used in many installations. A modified AMeP motor housing can be requested to reduce hull interference issues on installations with exceptionally low prop shaft lay lines.
We have not encountered an existing inboard which cannot be converted. Indeed, the electric motor body is so compact that we’ve added inboard power to an 18ft day-sailor. AGM batteries can be positioned wherever the space and mass is convenient, even on their side.
AMeP now provides all systems prewired for quick and simple installation. The motor is separated from the controller by three feet of cable. Longer lengths are available upon request.
We are now offering a 10kw direct drive system. The system operates at 72v nominal, and uses an included Kelly KBL72501 operating at 50%. The motor and controller are pre-wired, leaving only the power input cables for the installer to connect. |
