AMEP is dedicated to the research, design, production and distribution of brushless DC permanent magnet motors. Our motors are designed for direct replacement of aging inboard Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) commonly used in sailboats up to 38 feet and 15,000lbs displacement. By engineering a motor specifically for boats, we have eliminated all reduction requirements and reduced the number of moving components to a single rotor. Our billet aluminum housings are waterproof to ten feet of temporary submersion, as well as being vented through a GorTex membrane to avoid any atmospheric pressure on the shaft seal. A shaft mounted fan circulates air over the finned housing outside the motor, cooling the fully encapsulated stator within. No air passes through the motor, thereby eliminating corrosion aging from the magnetic structures.
Batteries are the defining factor for range. Determining maximum range will allow you to make the right selection for your energy storage requirements. Reasonable battery banks should allow for three hours of operation at full throttle. For longer battery life and some insurance, six hours at full throttle is about as much weight in lead-acid as most small boats will allow. Power converters and a generator will provide additional range. Battery chargers are not recommended for generator-motor operation.
AMeP provides direct purchasing through our website. We encourage customers to consider the services of an experienced marine professional if mechanical and electrical installations are unfamiliar. Once acquainted with the components, operation is as simple as a switch for power and a knob for speed and direction. Maintenance involves occasional battery monitoring to ensure reliable performance. No other maintenance is required. Unlike air-cooled motors, our housing can be washed down with normal soap and water when salt deposits build up on the housing. Salt deposits will occur as a result of ocean air cooling, and normal condensation within the bilge.
Our products simplifies the lives of boaters, keeps marina waters free of pollution from noise, exhaust fumes and oily discharge. AMeP systems provide the peace and serenity inherent to sailboats, even when under power. Our motors have been test run for over 20,000 hours without failures, and are designed to operate service-free for 10,000 hours minimum. A simple thrust bearing replacement is recommended at 10,000 hours, a simple task which can be accomplished with the motor installed. Wholesale accounts can apply by e-mail:
